Relevance, Tradition, and Practice in Islamic Architecture: A Personal Journey

While pre-industrial building practices allow us to build without exceeding the planet’s bio-capacity, the narratives of pre-modern civilizations provide roadmaps for returning to a ‘normative’ state in greater harmony with nature. Critical engagement with the theory and practice of Islamic architecture is therefore not only timely and meaningful, but in the context of the present global ecological crisis, it is also the need of the hour.
